Ryusei Karate-Do Federation U.S.A dojo are run by Roland
J. Figgs, Sr. He is a renshi (expert instructor) in Ryusei
Karate-Do
with more than 36 years of martial arts experience as a karate
teacher, practitioner and competitor. He was once a technical
director of the United States Chito-Kai Karate Federation
(1978-1993) and the co-chairman of the Ohio AAU Referee
Council
(1997-1998). He has been a member of and referee in the USA
National Karate-Do Federation since 1995.
In 1982, the late Tsuyoshi Chitose, founder of Chito-Ryu
karate, graded Roland Figgs to 4th dan because of "batsugan"
(exceptional technical skill) the first time a Chito-Ryu
student was upgraded in this manner. He is also a 4th degree
black belt in taekwondo and has experience in other martial
arts, including Shotokan karate, Goju-Ryu, Kyoshinkai, aikido,
kobudo and hapkido.
He has received many awards, including the Pinnacle Award
of Success from the U.S.A. International Black Belt Hall of
Fame, in 2001. He has also won many U.S. and international
tournaments as a kumite and kata competitor.
